The North Carolina Secretary of State is the official in charge of business entities in the state of North Carolina. This means that when you want to start a limited liability company (LLC) in North Carolina, you have to go through the Secretary of State’s office.

One of the first things you have to do is come up with a name for your LLC. The name has to be unique and it can’t be too similar to another business name that’s already registered with the state. To make sure your LLC name is available, you have to do a name search with the Secretary of State.

Here’s how to do an NC LLC name search:

1. Go to the North Carolina Secretary of State website.
2. Click on the Business Entities tab at the top of the page.
3. Scroll down and click on Search Business Entities.
4. Type in the name you want to use for your LLC in the Entity Name field and click Search.
5. If your LLC name is available, you’ll see a message that says “No results found.”

This list will show you all businesses in North Carolina that have a similar name to your desired LLC name. If there are no results that are similar to your LLC name, then it is likely available for use.

Or, maybe you have the perfect name for your LLC, but you want to make sure that it is available before you file your Articles of Organization. Either way, you will need to do an NC LLC name search.

The first step is to go to the North Carolina Secretary of State website and click on the Business Filings tab. Then, click on the Name Availability link.

On the Name Availability page, you will need to enter the proposed name for your LLC and check the box next to “LC” for limited liability company. Once you have done that, click on the Search button.

If the LLC name is available, it will come up as a search result with a link that says “View Details.” Click on that link.

On the next page, you will see a button that says “Reserve Now.” Click on that button and fill out the information on the form. Once you have completed the form and paid the $30 filing fee, your LLC’s name will be reserved for 120 days.

If the LLC name you want is not available, click on the “Search Again” button and try another name. The North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office does not require LLCs to have a particular name, so feel free to be creative. Some people choose to use their own name, while others use a made-up word or phrase. You can also include numbers or special characters in your LLC name, as long as it is still available.
